The title says it all really since his appearance on letterman people have been wondering what’s going on with him.

Joaquin Phoenix back in 2000.

Retirement

It was October, 27th, 2008 that Joaquin announced his retirement from acting to pursue a career in rap music. Joaquin had previously recorded the soundtrack album for the film Walk the Line for which he won a Grammy Award at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards.

It had been revealed that Joaquin has been the subject of a documentary made by his brother-in-law Casey Affleck entitled ‘I’m Still Here’. Rumours circulated that it was an elaborate hoax, to which Phoenix stated “This is not a joke. Might I be ridiculous? Might my career in music be laughable? Yeah, that’s possible, but that’s certainly not my intention.” However, he has also been reported to have said, “It’s a put-on. I’m going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers, and Casey is going to film it.”

Hoax?

If this is indeed a huge hoax it will have been one of the best and biggest hoaxes ever! It it may have a serious tone; how people treat other with mental illnesses. The Letterman interview is a perfect example, the audience and letterman seem to do nothing but take the piss out of him the entire interview, something like this wouldn’t happen if we knew they interviewee had a mental disability.

What’s your opinion on whether it’s a hoax or is it a sign of a serious mental breakdown. Check out the trailer for the film ‘I’m Still Here’. and the whole of the Letterman interview below.

If you’re sick of all the X-Factor rubbish in the charts, clogging up the air ways, then ‘The Razorbax – Something To Believe In’ is the album you need to buy. Each song is delivered with the intensity of people who love what they are doing, you can feel the raw passion from the music.

The quality of this album in both the actual recordings and art work would put some well known acts to shame. The album is 12 tracks of pure honest rock ‘n’ roll that ‘deals with the struggles of the unemployed, drug/alcohol addiction, love, lust, heartbreak, life, death. ‘

The Razorbax are definitely a band to watch out for, with great live performances, a great sounds and great album it’s not going to be long until they get the recognition they really deserve.

Track List:

Available to Download and listen at Spotify/Amazon/iTunes et al

An amendment to the Digital Economy Bill could see sites like YouTube and Vimeo blocked from the UK.

In the new amendment we will see big TV and music companies having the right to demand their material be taken down, the copyright holders will ask the ISP and the website itself to take down their material. If it is not taken down, a court order can force the ISP to block the site.

The law is aimed at sites which host a ‘substantial’ amount of copyright material. It is, however, unclear as to what ‘substantial’ means and we could see entire sites being blocked over some minor claims.

Secretary-general of the Internet Service Providers Association, Nicholas Lansman, said: ‘Our members are extremely concerned that the full implications of the amendment have not been understood.’
As ISPs will have no other choice but to block these sites as not doing so would result in huge lawsuits against them.

This is indeed another stake in the heart of democracy, where we see multi-billion dollar organisations ruling governments.

WMG steps back from Spotify

Warner Music Group have declared it will take a step back from free music streaming services.

Companies like Spotify, We7 and Last.fm give instant access to free, legal music by some of the worlds biggest artists, which is funded by adverts.

WMG have  said they will now stop licensing it’s music to these services, WMG who own music from artists like, Metallica, Seal, Sum 41 and Green Day haven’t made it clear whether they will just remove their music from excising services or decide not to make future deal about new music or with new services.  WMG,  and other music publishers, currently receive a fee for each song played (Some esitmates have said £0.085p per track) WMG have stated that this income is far less compared to what they would be receiving if each person was downloading the track or they were getting income from a based subscription service.

It certainly seems to me that this move is two steps back for the music industry, we should be looking forward in terms of new media in a way that allows consumers to easily get hold of the music they like. My only hope is that the other big music companies do not follow suit.
